THE PROBLEM:
NME (New Music Express) has long been a leading music publication associated with gonzo journalism and punk rock. The editor, Charlotte Gun, has decided to launch an offshoot publication with a focus on telling rich stories from music history and exploring uncommon perspectives on music theory. They needed a direction for covers and an editorial spread on the history of punk music.
THE SOLUTION:
Going with the themes of delving into music history the covers use a cassette tape motif to frame relevant images. The punk editorial layout plays with the ideas of rebelling against the norm in the typography without doing the expected by forgoing the use of classic punk symbols.
